The "no kings" protests have been growing all across the US. Symbolising a collective rebellion and worries about Donald Trump and his actions, these protests were here to prove that the US are still a democracy and that the people have the power. Defending queer, anti sexism and racism matters while protesting against ICE policies and procedures, these protests showed that people are angry and will not keep quite about it. New York is not an exception, as an historical democrat state, all the state had protests, especially in different New York City districts and one of them happened to be Broadway.
On June 14th 2025, all the people in the Broadway parade started singing "Do you hear the people the people sing ?" a song from the famous musical "les misérables", the adaptation of the Victor Hugo's book by the same name. The song talks about the angry people outside, it is a revolutionary hymn. The fact that this song is used on an actual political context when it was meant for a monarchy one is frightening and show the importance of people going out on the street the denounce the situation.
"do you hear the people sing ? singing the song of angry men ? It is the music of a people who will not be slaves again"
